What we translate

What we check

  • Other people's translationsWe compare the translation with the original: meaning, omissions, terms, numbers and names.
  • Texts in EnglishLetters, articles, presentations and websites you wrote yourself.
  • Texts in RussianReports, articles, publications and print materials.
  • Research papersAcademic style, consistent terminology, journal requirements.
  • Marketing materialsWebsites, booklets and ad copy that need to sound natural.
  • Documents before printingA final check of the layout: typos, hyphenation, consistent formatting.

Common mistakes

Mistakes the author doesn't see

Proofreading and editing are different services

A proofreader fixes spelling, punctuation and typos. An editor goes deeper: style, logic, accurate terminology and faithfulness to the original. We'll help you figure out which level your text needs.

Calques from the source language

A translation can be free of errors and still sound unnatural. The editor finds those spots and rewrites them the way a native speaker would say it.

Editing and proofreading: what you should know

Why editing matters

A good text is accurate, clear and correct. Even an experienced writer misses their own mistakes, and a translator immersed in the original can let a calque or an awkward phrase slip through. An editor's fresh eyes make the text flow and easy to understand.

Three levels of checking

  • Final check. A last pass for typos, omissions and mechanical errors. It's included in every translation we do by default.
  • Proofreading. Spelling, punctuation, grammar and consistent formatting: quotation marks, dashes, how numbers and dates are written.
  • Editing. The deepest level: style, flow, accurate terminology and, for translations, faithfulness to the original.

When editing matters most

Texts for a wide audience need editing: websites, marketing materials, publications and research papers. It's also worth investing in for medical, legal and technical texts, where a mistake in a specialized term can be costly.

You can skip editing if the text is only for you or a small group of people: internal correspondence, drafts, background reading.

How we work

You send the file, we assess the volume and the state of the text and suggest a level of editing. All changes are made in Track Changes so you can see every edit. If there are many corrections, we add comments about recurring mistakes so they're easier to avoid next time.
